FINDING CALM WITHIN THE NOISE
Sometimes it’s hard to find any serenity when living in a crowded environment. This is the situation I currently find myself in at the Bayelsa NYSC orientation camp. From the early morning drills to the lecture gatherings, to the endless queues and constant arguments in the hostel, it’s really tough to find any peace of mind within all the noise. Personally, finding calm within all this chaos has been tough, but as humans, we’re equipped with the skills to be adaptable to any situation. I sometimes concentrate on a particular object or sound and let everything else fade away. This doesn’t always work, but when it does, it enables me focus on my thoughts, it takes away the anxiety of being in a crowded space and it lets me appreciate the beauty of nature around me. A few beautiful things I’ve noticed here in Bayelsa are the insects on the grass that glow in the dark, they’re like fireflies that don’t fly.
